This American Character "Mama" doll is from the early 1920s. She's 16 inches tall with non-closing tin eyes and auburn brown mohair wig. Eyelashes are present, just hard to see. The head, arms, and legs are composition. Her body is cloth with a crier inside which no longer works. She appears to be wearing her original light green oilcloth button strap shoes and silk knit socks.
I'm not sure if her clothing is original but it's definitely old, which is why I didn't dare wash them. The dress is pale blue semi-sheer cotton batiste, trimmed in lace and silk ribbon flowers. It's held together at the back collar with an antique brass clasp. There are a few small pinhole tears in the back seat area of the skirt. Under the dress is a one-piece combination slip and bloomers. She also has her original pink silk ribbon flower headband.
The back of the neck is marked Petite, Amer. Char Doll Co. That hole at the back of the head is an intentional air vent, not damage. The arms have more crazing than the legs, however the lighting makes the arm and neck craze marks look more pronounced than they are.
