A rare original Mormon LDS Church book: Deseret Sunday School Reader, subtitled First Book For Our Little Friends. It's the third edition, published in 1881 (fifteen years before Utah was granted statehood) by the Juvenile Instructor Office in Salt Lake City Utah. The 7 by 4-3/4 inch hardcover book has embossed black cloth boards and a gilt stamped title.

The wire-stitched text block is completely detached from the cloth casing. The book ends at page 36. If you look at the last picture, it's unclear whether there are any missing pages. If so, I'm pretty sure the only missing page would be the back flyleaf as the staples are really tight. There are no tears, writing, or foxing, just normal age toning, a possible stain shown in picture 7, and some handling smudges likely caused by little fingers.
