This vintage South American hand carved folk art Yerba Mate gourd cup was a souvenir from the Rio Hermoso region of Patagonia, Argentina. Two sides have carved images of trees, mountains, and homes. The third side is engraved Rio de Hermoso. The spike at the interior bottom is part of the gourd's stem, and was intentionally left in place by the artisan to secure the special straw used to drink the traditional Yerba tea.
The cup is 3-1/2 inches high and in excellent vintage condition with no cracks or damage. It comes with a nickel plated metal stand with four staggered height arms.
