This vintage machine woven jacquard Gobelin-style pictorial tapestry wall hanging or throw was made in Mid Century Europe, probably Italy or Spain. The four corners depict Moorish mosque domes and minarets. The center features an ornate medallion flanked by four walking camels with riders. The horizontal panels have bands of stylized decorative Arabic motifs.
The tapestry measures 48 inches square not including the silky 3 inch fringe. There are 3 areas of missing fringe - the largest is 2-1/2 inches, the other two are less than an inch. The background warp threads are either slubby cotton or linen, the colored shiny weft threads are silky, vibrant rayon. Other than the missing areas of fringe, it's in very good vintage condition with no tears, holes, or stains. See my other listings for a similar tapestry from the same factory with a Rococo cherubs and chinoiserie pagodas theme.
