This Syrian Steward fez belonged to a member of the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Shriner's temple. It can be dated to pre-1942 based on the style, decoration, and label inside.
The hat is made of heavy maroon wool felt with ornate prong-set rhinestone and brass Egyptian Pharaoh head decoration. A 14 inch long black rayon tassel with rhinestone ring and crescent pin is attached to one side (pin is missing two stones, no others are missing). It's about 7 inches high by at least 7" diameter - the cloth label does not indicate the size. In very good vintage condition with no tears or holes, just a few tiny scuffs from wear or storage to the felt nap.
