A Victorian era porcelain enameled steel graniteware or enamelware match safe. It was designed to be mounted on the wall near a fireplace or wood stove. It's 5 inches high by 4-1/2" wide and has two pockets for matches with a stippled striker plate in the center. The mottled blue-gray enamel finish is in excellent, shiny condition - it appears the match holder was never used, although there are a few tiny enamel chips from age and storage as shown.
