This antique turtle shape glass baby bottle is the Acme Nursing Bottle by Whitall, Tatum & Company, produced from the 1880s through about 1900. This and similar nursers became known as "murder bottles", because the hard rubber tubing was hard to clean and trapped bacteria. According to University of Nebraska Medical center article, one third of all artificially fed 19th century infants died during their first year. The bottle design was finally banned in 1910.

The 6 inch long bottle was designed to rest flat. It comes with a glass stopper, which once had a hard rubber plug at the bottom, of which only a sliver remains. Embossed with an ornate letter W in a sunburst and the words Acme Nursing Bottle. In excellent, clean condition with no damage or scratches.
