This is a late 1940s to early 1950s West German figural glass Christmas ornament in the shape of a clown holding a banjo and sitting on a log or stump. Note the unusual crossed legs. Apparently a series of similar musical clown ornaments were produced, each holding a different instrument.
The ornament is 4 inches high, superbly detailed and in wonderful condition with virtually no wear. The rust and brown paint of the clown's costume is still bright, and the painted facial features are all intact. There are no chips, breaks, or other problems other than some oxidation on the metal cap.
