This vintage 4-1/4" glass Father Christmas style Santa Claus ornament from West Germany has an unusual, scarce shape with very broad shoulders, the long rust-red coat tapering in a bit to the feet. My book calls it a "square Santa" but only shows the modern version, not this older style. A large dark green, long needled pine tree rests at an angle in front, and Santa holds a bulging silvered toy sack over his shoulder. White mica glitter decorates his extra long beard and the fur on his cap. Very slight color wear, there are are no chips or breaks and the silvering is good. The metal cap is the old German type so the ornament was probably produced shortly after the war, possibly even right before. Many late 1930s German ornaments were not exported until the war ended, therefore did not have the newer Western Germany caps.
