Hand painted leather souvenirs were popular in Yellowstone National Park gift shops in the 1920s and 1930s. This 8-1/2" by 5-3/4" sueded leather photo album is from that time period, with a handpainted scene of the lower waterfalls at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The word Photographs above the falls scene is printed in light green to match the braided binding tie and geometric painted border. Yellowstone Park is hand lettered at one side of the scene.
Inside are 20 sheets of heavy black paper, all with evidence of removed photo mounts. The word Family is written on the first sheet, the only writing in the album. The back cover is plain undecorated leather. Though previously used, there are no tears and only minor wear, mostly to the edges and corners. Overall the album is in very good vintage condition and displays nicely.
