This 1950s lacquered wood musical jewelry box has a glass side window and front door that opens to reveal a kimono-clad geisha style doll surrounded by mirrored panels. She rotates to music when the key underneath is wound. The music plays a little slowly, but I think the tune is Beautiful Dreamer.
The jewelry box is about 10 inches high by 8-1/2" wide and 4" deep. There are four pull-out drawers lined in red velour. The box is lavishly hand painted on all sides with Asian landscapes except the bottom and back panels. The front edges are decorated with inset abalone shell chips. The underside is marked Acsons Japan. Acsons was a Mid Century importing company, not the actual manufacturer. There is a split to the lacquer along the the left edge of the extension on top of the box, otherwise it's in very good vintage condition.
