A boxed set of one dozen 1940s unsilvered glass Christmas ornaments, made during World War II when manufacturers had to use painted, sprayed, and flashed decoration rather than the traditional silvered colors for their ornaments. Most are Shiny Brites, about 2-1/2 inches high,.
Two ornaments are solid color with no decoration, one pink round, the other a green bell. Nine are decorated with painted colored stripes or rings - one of these has white and yellow mica glitter. One Shiny Brite ornament is a futuristic bell or tree shape with bands of transparent red and green alternating with tinsel inside. The small clear striped ornament also has a sprig of tinsel inside. The stenciled Christmas Greetings ornament is opaque blue and white. One side has noticeable scratching to the center or the decoration (last photo).
There is some scratching and wear to some of the painted stripes but no chips or breaks. The plain cardboard ornament box bottom is intact and in good condition. The lid has splits to the corners and tape marks.
