This box of 12 unsilvered glass Christmas ornaments contains mostly Shiny Brite brand, produced during the 1940s World War II years. During that time silver nitrate was needed for military use and unavailable to ornament manufacturers, so for three or four Christmas seasons they used painted, flashed, and sprayed-on transparent and opaque colors without silvering.
All of the Shiny Brite ornaments are round with colorful transparent horizontal stripes or bands, alternating with stripes of white or yellow colored mica glitter. They are 2 to 2-3/4 inches diameter. There are two smaller ornaments in pink and white mica with flecks of colored glitter - these do not have Shiny Brite caps, marked only Made In U.S.A.
Several ornaments have wear to the mica glitter as shown. There are no chips or breaks. The plain manila ornament box has some storage wear, there is no lid.
